The Henry Fok Pearl Jubilee College (HFPJC) organised a fundraising campaign between late September and October 2020 for children in Guping Primary School in Congjiang County, Guizhou Province. The event aimed to buy winter quilts for children in the school to stay warm during winter. With strong support from the college members and UM staff, a total of MOP28,643.9 was raised during the two-week campaign. The funds were used to purchase 25 bunk beds, 50 blanket sets, pillows, and bedding items.

Members of the HFPJC had carried out a volunteer teaching project in Guping Primary School in May 2019. However, the project was suspended in 2020 because of the Coronavirus pandemic. During this period, the college’s service-learning team kept communication with students and teachers in Guizhou and found that many students had to sleep directly on the concrete floor and share one blanket because of insufficient beds and bed linens. It was in response to this that the college members spontaneously organised this campaign, hoping to raise funds for purchasing blankets and related items, in order to help the children get through the cold mountain winter.
