Choi Kai Yau College (CKYC) of the University of Macau (UM), Chung Chi College of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and Muse College of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) (CUHK-Shenzhen) jointly launched the GBA Foo Cheung Study Tour Program in July 2023.

The opening ceremony was held on 3 July. Chen Yongqin, college master of Muse College of CUHK-Shenzhen; Fong Wing Ping, head of Chung Chi College of CUHK; and Janny Leung, college master of CKYC of UM, delivered an opening remarks respectively. In her speech, Leung expressed her gratitude to staff members of the colleges and acknowledged their efforts in organising the study tour programme. Recalling her own work experience in Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Macao, she encouraged the students to seize the opportunity presented by the programme and explore further development opportunities.

Students who participated in the study tour programme said that they had benefited a lot from the trips. Through field visits and study tours to various cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), including Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Zhuhai, Hong Kong, and Macao, the students gained insights into the development of the GBA and the characteristics and advantages of each city. They also noted that formulating corresponding development strategies and plans while fostering cooperation and coordination for joint development would help promote the sustainable economic, social, and cultural development of the GBA, thereby ensuring a better future.

The study tour programme enabled students and faculty from three higher education institutions in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao to undertake a nine-day study tour of cities in the GBA. Through talks, discussion sessions, field visits, and visits to historical and cultural sites, the students gained a first-hand understanding of the GBA’s economic development, business environment, as well as social and livelihood changes. This experience empowered them to equip themselves with the knowledge and insights necessary to seize future development opportunities.
