Six students of Cheong Kun Lun College (CKLC), University of Macau (UM), won awards in the university category (Chinese) of the fourth China-US Youth Chinese & English Writing Competition. The event was co-organised by a number of Chinese American associations, the American journal Hong Shen Lin, the American-Chinese Art and Literary Association, and the Chinese magazine New Composition. Students Luo Yi, Chen Min, and Zhao Rui won the first prize, and Zheng Hao, Qiao Jiaqi, and Tang Siyi won second the prize.

The theme of this year’s competition was ‘Love in the Heart’ and ‘On the Road of Life’. The organising committee hoped that through the contest, young people would learn to keep love in their hearts during their life journeys and to pursue their dreams even in the face of adversities. The theme was similar to that of an essay competition organised by CKLC in early 2020, in which students were invited to write stories about the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The award presentation ceremony was held on 28 May 2021 in San Francisco in the Victory Hall. Contestants from all over the world watched the ceremony online. UM winners sang the song ‘Sunshine College and Profound Culture’, which was recorded into a video and was played during the ceremony.
